| Bitdefender Total
2012 Review
Pros: Impressive lab test results.
It offers the best anti-phishing, social network
protection, smart and silent firewall. It also
features decent parental controls, system tune
up and online backup.
Cons: Low
test scores on malware blocking and removal.
You may notice some strange elements in the
parental control system.
Summary:
Overall, Bitdefender Total Security 2012 contains
all of the features you would want to have in
a mega suite while it doing its job silently.
It has good components and great phishing protection.
It is perfect choice for those who need protection
without any hassle.
Review:
The user friendly interface
of Total Security 2012 is targeted at home users
and it has been given with an overhaul to ensure
that it is more user-friendly. It is also equipped
with some key feature to provide better protection,
making it less intrusive. Home screen is divided
into for main sections that cover Firewall,
Antivirus, Antispam and Update. Clicking on
any of these will you into another menu where
every option is labeled clearly with simple
on or off button right beside it.
There are also additional
headings that can be rearranged in accordance
to your preferred home screen. These include
Safebox for online backup when there are changes
detected, Parental Control, Tune-up that will
remove unnecessary files and Privacy Control
that monitors only data protection and provides
encryption and detects fraud and phishing on
internet browsers.
Another new and great addition
is the social net working security feature that
monitors links that come from Facebook and highlights
that are suspicious. The new Virtualized Browser
isolates the browser effective from the operating
to fend off threats online. But the most remarkable
feature of this package is the Auto Pilot feature
that appears right at the top of the home page.
With only a single click, you can get continuous,
silent protection without having to be consulted
every minute with annoying pop-ups that will
notify you of suspicious activity.
If threats like rootkits can
be dug out from the operating system, the computer
is going to be rebooted in Rescue Mode while
the problem is being treated. An area wherein
Bitdefender remains a little thin is in inspecting
instant message since only the Yahoo Messenger
is covered.
Bitdefender also performed
well in heading off another conventional bugbear
with security software and that is the system
slowdowns that typically occur when scanning.
Bitdefender Total Security 2012 includes a Scan
Dispatcher in which the schedule system scans
only when the usage of resource drops at a certain
low level. |
