Pros: It comes with a great
virus scanner and one of the best in malware
protection. It has minimum impact on PC performance,
backup upload and parental control.
Cons: With
its tools, the language used is not English.
It has excessive and rather annoying firewall
and moderate spam filter.
Summary: Overall,
Avira AntiVir premium Security Suite is a perfect
tool that offers protection to computers. The
great thing about this tool is it has little
to no effects on PC performance and is relatively
best for power user who wants to have complete
control of the program.
Review: Avira is very well
known for its free virus scanner. It comes with
free scanner and like most other, it misses
some of the important features of protection
on spyware, update and malicious content protection.
It includes virus detector, firewall, parental
control, spam protection and phishing protection.
Components:
• AntiVir Guard –
It runs in the background. The component repairs
files and monitors them during the operations
like open, write and copy. Files are scanned
automatically.
• AntiVir MailGuard
– It is the interface between the computer
and email server on which emails are downloaded.
It is connected through a proxy between the
server and the email program.
• AntiVir WebGuard –
While surfing the net, the web browser requests
data from the net server and the AntiVir WebGuard
provides on access scan.
• Avira Firewall –
Controls the communication to and from your
computer, allowing or denying the communications
based on the security policies.
• Backup – Helps
in creating mirror data backups automatically
and manually.
Installation:
Users can download the file
from the Avira website. Its download speed is
fast, with a file size of 33 MB. After the file
download, the software immediately starts with
the installation process. It is possible to
install the components and features required
by the user. After installing, the configuration
wizard starts in order for the basic features
to be configured. Once the update is done, the
computer restarts. Overall, the process is easy,
trouble-free and fast.
Interface:
Avira AntiVir Premium Security
suite interface states all license terms, components
and status of full computer scan. The left side
features the tabs that provide an access to
the components. The tool has two levels for
experts and beginners.
Protection:
The virus scanner is one of
the best scanners in the market. The testing
can be done on a demand and timely basis. Virus
scans, back-ups and updates are scheduled by
the Scheduler Administration menu and provides
two options, custom scan or full scan.
Effectiveness:
It received highest rating
of Advanced + in AV Comparatives. It also earned
certification in the ICSA Labs certificate and
receives VB 100% certification and in West Coast
Labs.
